About the project

As part of its "Sezon na MiSie" (Teddy Bear Season) campaign, Compensa set out to break a record: 510 people hugged a teddy bear at the same moment during an online broadcast. We documented the event on film.

Filming a brand's record attempt

A record that happens online

For its "Sezon na MiSie" campaign, Compensa organised a record attempt: 510 people hugged a teddy bear at the same moment during an online broadcast. The participants were in different places, so the film could not rely on one crowd in one room. Our job was to document the event on film.

At online events part of the footage comes from screens: the grid of participants' cameras, the counter, the host's announcements. We record these directly from the computer in a quality fit for editing, not with a phone pointed at a monitor.

A number as the main character

In a record-attempt film everything leads to one number, here 510. The edit builds tension around the counter and, once the result is announced, shows people's reactions. A film like this only works on social media if the result comes quickly, so the short version starts close to the climax.

Questions

How do you film an event when the participants are at home?

By recording the broadcast from the organiser's computer, plus a few planned shots with selected participants or in the host's studio.

Does a record need to be documented in a special way?

It depends on the body confirming it. The organiser sets the requirements, and we film so the footage meets them, for example with a visible timer.
